Find Out More About the Westport, Weston and Norwalk Area Economy & Job Market
WESTPORT
Once thought of as a commuter community,
today more and more residents work in the area as companies are moving their
corporate headquarters to or near Westport. Many consultants, commercial
designers, graphic artists, and other entrepreneurs work out of small offices
or their homes. For those who commute, Westport is just over an hour from most
of Manhattan and the New York airports. Transportation to New York City is
readily available on Metro North or by car on the Merritt Parkway or Interstate
95.
WESTON
Weston is a town of "cottage industries,"
but not in the usual sense of the word. There is no industry and no
professional buildings in town. Instead there are many doctors, lawyers,
accountants, consultants-and more-who work out of their homes-what a great
commute! Other Westonists do need to get in their cars to commute to New York
City or neighboring towns.

NORWALK
Although Norwalk began as a shipping center,
exporting agricultural products and bringing in manufactured goods after the
Revolutionary War, the arrival of the railroad in the mid-1800s gave rise to
local manufacturing. At that time, Norwalk quickly became the nation's hat
manufacturing center followed by locks, pumps, compressors, corsets, shirts,
and cigars.
Manufacturing continues as Norwalk's largest
industry, accounting for nearly 35 percent of all jobs. Over the years,
however, the types of manufacturing employment have dramatically shifted. Fewer
people are engaged in assembly and production jobs, which have been largely
automated, while more are employed in research and development, shifting the
job market to a highly skilled, educated work force without large job losses. A
sampling of companies calling Norwalk home are: U.S. Surgical Corporation
(manufacturing surgical supplies, Corporate Headquarters), Virgin Atlantic
Airways (Airline and Leisure Travel, US Headquarters)< Swank and Trafalgar
(leather goods manufacturing), Perkin-Elmer (manufacturing scientific
instruments, Corporate Headquarters), MBI (direct mail marketing, Corporate
Headquarters), and many more. Request my Free Westport, Weston and Norwalk Relocation Package. Financing Your Home >Qualifying Guidelines
It may be difficult to qualify for a home mortgage loan. As a buyer, you may find the perfect home, but finding the perfect financing might become elusive. After you complete the application process, your lender may turn you down, which is an upsetting development for any prospective homebuyer. What can be done to remedy such a setback?
The answer depends on why you were turned down. If your income is too low to satisfy one mortgage company, there might be another company with more liberal qualifying guidelines. If you have had credit problems, some lenders may be more willing than others to help you clear them up in a manner that satisfies their underwriters. If your loan runs into problems, sit down with the loan officer and your real estate agent to investigate the possibility of using a different lender. The first company may be able to "assign" the package to a competitor, enabling you to use your same credit report and appraisal. You will need the cooperation of your sellers, too.
While loan rejections are disappointing, they can be resolved.
